Rodchenko and Popova – ‘the end of art?’
May 17th, 2009 by Nick

This was a great exhibition at Tate Modern about Rodchenko, Popova and constructionism. Its all in the title as Rodchenko and Popova tried, under the influence of the Russian revolution, to strip art back to its basic structures.

Despite the theory the end results are surprisingly attractive and quite intriguing though somewhat bizarre in the case of his designs for a stage play.

In the end Rodchenko finally gave up art as he logically concluded that one he had got back to the primary colours there was nothing left to do.

Also see recent exhibition at Hayward Gallery about his photography.
