If you saw earlier exhibitions at the Royal Academy about Hokusai and Hiroshigi you might like Kuniyoshi, or not?

The Academy have surpassed themselves and crammed masses of items in a small space which was very busy. But is Kuniyoshi as appealing as Hokusai and Hiroshigi – not for me. He specialised in martial drawings which are somewhat gruesome and complex as real names had to be disguised.

In the last room the images become a lot more appealing with more landscapes and some comedy items such as the octopuses playing games. However make your own mind up and go see Kuniyoshi.
